Putting it to the brains trust out there ....... What is the best way of removing the stupid factory decals on the side of a sierra without damaging the paint?

It's no different to any other sticker or car. Wash it so it's nice and clean, grab a hair dryer or heat gun, heat the area and peal the decal off.

However keep in mind, once you peel it off, you will have a VERY noticeable paint different. So it may end up looking worse then it does now. Unless you intend on painting it, of course.

In which case, if it's a "real" paint job, you'll need to go to bare metal to avoid seeing where the decals were. Paint isn't 100% opaque, so the UV masking caused by the decal will run into the undercoat, so regardless of how far you sand, there will always be a colour mismatch you'll see in the new paint.

On the money gwagen. But who is going to pay a smash repairer the big $$$ to paint strip and professionally refinish sides of a sierra.... not a zook owner I'll hazard

Used a caramel wheel to remove all mine.
Best thing ever... Just keep moving the wheel around as concentrating a a small area can burn the paint.
Use on a cordless drill....

Thanks all, I'll get a Caramel Wheel and see how it goes. And if that doesnt work I'll strip it back to bear metal and ,,,,,,, no I wont because the scratches that I keep adding to it every weekend tells me there is no point - ha ha

Here is an update.
So I got a Caramel Wheel off ebay and it finally arrived today (apparently China is a long way away, even if it is free post).
Couldn't wait so I tried it out straight away on a small section.
Guys this thing is awesome and dog shit simple to use. just keep it moving and it takes off 23 years old decals as easy as lingerie on Valintines Day.
I know what I'm doing this weekend .......... besides adding some more scratches
