Hi guys, needing some advice re traction control. I have a 2015 jimny sierra auto. On the soft sand the TC kicks in all the time and almost brings the car to a stand still via braking etc. It can be disengaged by holding the button on the dash but it automatically re-engages after 30km/h. Is there a way to override this that anyone is aware of? This feature appears to be permanently disabled in low range but is not a practical solution for higher speeds beach driving. Any advice much appreciated! Adam

There's likely a fuse you can pull to disable it? Not sure what else that'd mess with though, and you'd want to be sure to re-engage it, cos im pretty sure your insurance would be null and void in a crash if they found out!

Hi mate yeah its a tricky one wrt warrantys and insurance etc. From what I've read the TC systems are pretty basic and mainly introduced to comply with safety regs. It kicks in mainly when trying to steer left or right out the already deep and worn tracks on the beach, say if there is someone coming from the other direction following the same worn track. As soon as the tires start to bite into the edge the TC sort of guesses something's wrong and starts breaking the wheels randomly to compensate. I'm pretty sure engine power is cut also in conjunction with this. Excellent car and I cannot fault it apart from this.

I don't know what effect pulling the ABS fuse will have on warranty, I can't imagine any at all, or if ABS function is data logged as part of OBD.

Perhaps using a scan tool will assist in that.

The obvious "fix" is just pulling the ABS fuse. I believe plenty of warning lights light up under these circumstances.

thanks guys will look into the fuse thing, also may contact Suzuki to see if there is a way to disengage TC.

my 2015 jimny definitely has a button to turn ESC off to the right hand side of the steering wheel where the buttons go. You have to hold the button in for a few seconds i discovered I think. A light then comes on the dash when its off.

I *think* I recall it automatically turn off in low rang and the light comes on the dash, cant remember without looking really though...

I haven't taken my jimny on the sand yet but from my experience in my d40 navara when in high range in the sand the ESC was on unless you manually turned it off and it was a pain in the ass, pretty much made me get bogged in the soft stuff. So much better once I turned the ESC off.

Is it possible to wire in a switch to make the car think it's in low?

I'm thinking you could make it so the switch can only be used when the car is in h4 by using a relay.

Doesn't it automatically turn back on over 30km/hr even in low range though?

Wouldn't be too hard to get a little bit stuck at have the wheels spin at 30km/hr, re-engaging it and getting you more stuck or at least not helping the situation.

What a pain in the ass definitely need a way to stop it coming back on at 40kmh for sand driving. I didn't think it did one back on over 40kmh in low range? Will have to test it

In low range it switches off automatically and the little light on the dash comes on to let you know its off. As far as I can tell there is no way to disable it in high range, unless you are going under 40ish k's an hour and then it'll come straight back on after you exceed this speed. Ive tried to turn it off even when driving around town in 2wd and it won't turn off if you're going over 40k's.

Almost positive that it doesn't. It disengages automatically when LR is selected and as far as I can tell does not come back on. I had to use LR on Bribie just recently it was high tide and there were hundreds of 4wd's on the beach couldnt afford to bog down with traction control jitters if I was trying to get out of /someones way coming from the other direction. I wouldnt have been going much faster than 40 for sure and I'm assuming this is not recommended for long periods of time because of the higher revs etc. Its an Auto btw not sure how the manuals go with the TC.

So you can go over 40khm in low range and it won't come back on in your 2015 auto jimny?
