Does anyone know of any remote reservoir shocks with a compressed lenth of 365mm and hopefully around 600mm extended.
Jimny front shocks so pin top mount and eye bottom. Measured from middle of eye to the mounting surface on the pin.

Have tried dobinsons in adelaide who advertise that they make them to customers specs but they don't seem interested in making them for a jimny.

Any suggestions?

G'Day Shep, have a look at Fox remotes for JK wrangler. The lengths will be pretty close to what you're after. The front JK shocks are pin top and eye bottom.

The rears look close but would require revalving for use in the Jimny. I'm not sure who'd handle that locally or if these are even the revalvable - the Fox website isn't completely clear on that.

Are you having shock fade problems Shep?

Both my front shocks are blown, rears are fine for now. Want a good, soft, tuneable and rebuildable shock.

Don't really want to modify my shock mounts but it's looking like I will have no choice.

In addition to the bling factor, they will typically have longer travel (because the floating piston and the space for the nitrogen is no longer in the shock body), they hold more oil, so they run cooler and have less fade.

Good info but was more asking for Shep's app in particular

Because my suspension set up is very soft and I would like to keep it that way. There are no nice soft shocks available
to dampen a long travel setup that only has 300kg on each wheel.
I am hoping that some adjustable remote reservoir shocks might work.

Plus they look pretty cool.

At the moment my car is undrivable as all the oil has leaked out of the shock so would like to sort something pretty quickly

Ive had the opposite problem with the sierra most shocks are way too soft to perform well. Perhaps a rancho 9000 adjustable, efs elite or procomp have something to suit ive found them all a bit soft on the lwb.
Going remote res seems like a good way to spend more $$$ than u have to

The only shock that springs to mind would be a Bilstein 5150.

I wouldn't put RS9000's on anything. That's after lots of experience with them.

It has rough country N2.0 shocks on it now and they only lasted 30000km, would prefer to spend a bit more and get what I
want which includes the ability to be rebuilt.

Would something like that work shep?

That model has a bush on the lower mount so should be able to change that out to work with the jimny mount

30,000kms is piss poor.

Amada extreme do some remote resi jim shocks. There are also a bunch of chinese remote jim shocks on alibaba. I would love to try, but they aren't that cheap and the step to fox/king/radflow seems well justifiable. I would also like to try the amada's as they get a good wrap in non suzuki products. I might try their non remote resi ones first and see if I like, they get a good wrap in south africa and i can get my hands on them easily (but they are the same price as pro comp es1000's, but apparently better).

as a side note, there is a large range of adjustment in the AVO shocks. firm is spine shattering, soft feels like you dont actually have shocks and you bounce round for days.

jimny bits can get them in 'any' length. i didn't play with them enough, but from what i did with them in a limited time, they were great going down the track, very comfortable and weren't qurkey. very esy to set up, just dont burn youself on the exhust...

If u drive on lots of shit dirt roads like shep it doesn't make sense to not run remote res shocks. No twin tube shock will handle the heat and fade. One they done that a few times the oil is stufed and the seals die like has happened to his now. Try dank. He might be able to make some radflo

agree, but atleast with a adjustable shock you can back it off for a long trip, which reduces the heat buildup and fade, and can be more comfortable. then dial them up when you have wheels in the air.

Why would you do either of those things jezza haha

Soft shocks are better offroad cause they allow a wallow but you want some stiffer shocks for highway stuff. You know incase you need to change lanes or something quickly

yeah I find the stock shocks far too soft for highway driving, ends up bouncing the car down the road

I prefer firm shocks but it just means the car is rough at 80 but smooth at 100

my theory is so when i have a wheel a metre off the ground, and am about to drop down onto it, i want the shock to absorb that energy rather then the bump stop alone.
i want the shock absorber, to absorb some of that shock, but not so much that it would cause damage to the shock mounts.

likewise, i don't need to be able to dampen a 1 m drop down the 'highway', rather i'm more concerned about the bound and rebound rates that affect handling over configurations.
running over configurations requires lower tire pressures from the get go, but the vibration will still smash your tailbone through the jimny seat. it was giving both myself and my girlfriend some grief.

so i put in the avo's and dialed them in softer in the rear for extra traction, and firmer in the front for tighter steering, and overall they were a lot softer then the procomp ES5000's, and yes i agree, less responsive if you had to swerve on bitumen, but overall provided better traction on dirt and the car stoped and turned better.

and, i don't have much bitumen to worry about.
