The tow bar on my Jimny has a 40mm (class 3) tongue. The standard tongue is 50mm.

I've been looking for a recovery hitch similar to this (http://www.tjm.com.au/sites/default/fil ... rhitch.jpg) but couldn't find one. No one sells 40mm x 40mm recovery hitch. All is 50mm x 50mm.

Anybody know where I can get one?

Or can suggest some other solutions?

I know I can just use the pin but afraid of the square cutting the snatch straps.

Would finding a 40mm to 50mm adaptor work (but most likely this will reduce the strength)?

Or finding a fabrication shop who's willing to mill down a standard 50mm to 40mm.

No easy solution as far as I know.

Just use the pin, it's the safest way to use the tow bar. Those recovery hitches just add another point of failure. Check out a few different snatch straps, the ends on some are wound differently and aren't anywhere near as bulky, they would fit better with less chance of damage. If you're still worried knock down the edge with a file, it doesn't need to be sharp.

An adapter would be a bad idea putting a bunch of bad leverage on the tow bar. Milling down a standard one would work if the unit was solid but it wouldn't be cheap.

Have seen hitches folded up at near 90deg and the pins are still like new.

If I file the sharp edges of the tow square, do I need to apply some anti rust paint?

I did it at work. Before that i used a 1m lifting sling that had realy narrow ends aand just joined my snatch to that . Some times i did it right but most of the time im lazy and just used a shackle
