Does anybody know if 98-05 grand vitara auto/manual transfer cases are interchangeable and if they are the same ratio? I know that auto t-cases for the m series jimnys are a lower ratio to the manual so wondering if the grand vitaras are the same? Cheers

Transfer cases are the same ratio and no they are not interchangeable between auto and manual.

Yeah they do. The manual input is larger in diameter and a lot longer than the auto.

It's my understanding that the differences exist only on the V6 transmission/transfer cases - I've been led to believe that on the 2.0 & 1.6 engined Grand Vitaras the transfer case is the same on both manual & automatics.

I'm pretty sure the 2.0 and 1.6 splines are the same, I can check later, I have a couple of old manual 1.6 Tcases and one out of an auto 2.0

That is correct as well. It is the manual v6 transfer that is unique, the auto is the same as the older models.
