So, story goes that I have a 2015 Jimny with the m13a as most would know. It is Manual also.

I have 2.5 years of warranty but I am getting pretty sick of the lackluster power on hills and slight slopes!

I have fitted the basic stuff to try to help, Snorkel. etc but not change.

I have the opportunity to put in a M18A with 50 000k's on it but I am worried about upcoming issues. I am getting a Suzuki wrecker to do the install if I proceed. Can anyone report if this is a solid idea or are there to many little issues to go with it?

What is the reliability like?

main issue you might have is that the engine will be older than the jimny and thus often cannot be mod plated.

lots of guys have done the m18 and loved it, with very few issues.

Yeah I am not too worried about the mod plate....

The engine is really hard to tell by looking at it that it has been swapped out so I don't think it is going to be an issue at the end of the day.

I am sure I could find someone to mod plate it if I really needed to. I am more concerned about mechanical issues that might end up expensive in the long run with no warranty.

I am guessing that it would be advised to change the timing changed during the engine transplant considering it would be much easier with the motor out and just to future proof it a bit.

did you test drive it before you bought it?
have you put bigger tires on it?

I am going to check it out this afternoon. It is in the car running so I will be able to check the oil for milkyness, check for cracks, listen to everything.... All the usual stuff.

I have only slightly bigger tyres 215/75/r15's

usually its timing belt/chain and water pump at the same time because its only 5 second more work to do the water pump once the timing belt/chain is out of hte way, unless m18's have a water pump that is out of the way of the timing belt/chian

M engines have timing chains. They do not have a service interval so there is no need to change it at all unless it is getting noisy.
Unless the water pump is showing signs of leaking then leave that alone as well.

50,000km is a pretty fresh engine. Should be good for at least 200,000.

Hiya mate, I can report that I did this over a year ago in my late 2012 jimny which is the same as yours I believe, the M18A I purchased had 54000k's on it whereas my jim was showing only 11200 on the odometer.
Mine was an easy conversion however it always felt like it was restricted so eventually after I had saved for a while I had it on a dyno and we found it was over fuelling due to running a stock 1.3 ECU so basically the new engine has much more intake suction than the 1.3 and it was dumping more fuel to try and compensate so to overcome this I had a XEDE aftermarket piggyback computer installed and and man does it go now.
It will still run ok with the standard 1.3 ECU but you may discover that it feels like it could be better,that was my case anyway ,hope this helps .

TEKNO, were you running the m18a throttle body? Extractors?

I am thinking of doing both of those and hopefully it won't be over fuelling too much.

How much to do a Dyno test?

Yep 1.8 TB and extractors into a nice Xforce muffler so a nice note.
It always felt like it was bogging down under hard acceleration so eventually I went to a great Dyno shop and he found the prob straight away so the only way out for me was a piggyback ECU. Also the Jimnys standard airbox is small and restrictive compared to the Lianas airbox so I got some from tips from another zooker on here( cant remember his name) and I cut a 50mm hole in the front of the jimnys airbox down the bottom right behind the headlight and installed some 50mm PVC pipe with appropriate bends to slot in beside the radiator and pick up air from behind the grille,this worked a treat BUT if you intend on doing water crossings this will NOT work for you as you may pick up water and even a Snorkel I dont think will help it breathe any better because it enters the airbox in the same location. So far no check lights and the cost for the XEDE unit,wiring in and dyno time was a tad over 2grand but the dyno shop I used is not the cheapest im afraid but hey its done now and well worth it.
As an example my standard auto jimny 1.3 used to do the 0-100 sprint in around 21 seconds but NOW if I leave it in D and floor it,the best i've got out of 3 runs was 10.2 seconds and on the dyno jimny made 64.9kw and 119nm of torque at the wheels so yes it goes waaaaay better,as a comparison the 1.3 made 34kw atw
Even does burnouts now wooohooo
Am i happy? you bet.....just wish I had a bigger fuel tank :roll:

I go down my local beach alot so having the extra ooomph in the sand is very helpful and im still running HT tyres,I have never let my tyres down yet like the big forbys do as mine are stock 23PSI anyway so I dont feel the need yet to drop them any lower,I just use 2nd or 3rd in the sand and so far i've been ok
