Hi All.
I have just purchased a 1988 Suzuki Sierra with a g13a motor. As this is for my son who is on his "P" the block needs to stay.
What I'd like to do for a cheap performance upgrade is run the g16a head on the g13a block. My research tells me I need the following:
g16a head, head gasket, cam, inlet manifold, dizzy, timing chain cover and timing chain tensioners.
Is this correct?
Do i need anything else and is this a straight bolt on or do I need modifications?
Appreciate your assistance.
Chris.

I doubt you'll see much (if any) performance gain. The g16A has slightly larger valves but that's really it.
The g series doesn't use timing chain- it's a belt driven motor. There are some differences in belt width and profile between variants- you'll need to be aware of that.
You shouldn't need a new tensioner or timing belt cover. Manifolds are interchangeable. Fuel pump mounting boss is different so the pumps aren't interchangeable.

Thks All.
Most of the read ups said there was an improvement. Wont waste my time on it then. So what would be an easy cheap upgrade? It already has extractors on it.

Many people <3 every mod they make, while being unable to quantify their improvements. Some who spend big upping the g13a and keeping it carby, later admit it's not worth the cost/effort.
Besides going to efi, there are no simple performance gains that are worth while.
I have fiddled around with the g13a a little, bastardised a g16 with g13 stuff, ran a g16a for a while, played heaps with the carby, ran a corolla carby for a while, ran extractors and torque cam, ran 98 and advanced the timing, stupid k corolla motor. Seen a few fully reconditioned and not last. Opening a suzuki engine is best avoided. They never seem to last once opened. Generally it all sucks and was a waste of money compared to vit/baleno efi
A healthy stock engine, with carby up to spec, is about the best performance/cost Sure it sucks, but you can save the coin and efi it later.

Sorting out the gearing is about the best performance mod you can make, and then just maintain the car properly.

What was the reasoning behind the improved performance of a g13 with a g16 head? Different cam profile? Bigger valves?
Personally the g16A is my least favourite Suzuki motor. It's lazy.

Not sure Gwagensteve. All the read ups suggested better performance, bigger cambers, cam opens up for a bit longer and carbie is bigger

Skim head to bump compression up 3/4 of a point was the best seat of pants mod i have seen on a 1.3. Downside is 98+ octane only

And slightly different bellhousing pattern meaning you need a $200 adaptor kit to bolt it up to the 1.3 gearbox

Bigger valves, bigger ports, slightly more cam duration.

G13b or G13bb and EFI will be a real performance upgrade
