[Hybrid]

Hi Guys,

I bought this engine half disassembled which has made things painful. I've just installed the injectors and fuel rail but I think I must be missing something. If I tighten the fuel rail bolts all the way then the rail doesn't allow enough clearance for the injector connectors to fit. The photos below explain this a lot better. In these pics I don't even have the bolts tightened all the way but the connector are already fouling. Can anyone suggest what I'm missing?

I'm not that familiar with the G16B, but, I believe you may be missing a spacer that fits below the rail - are there 3 bolts to secure the rail? The parts manual appears to show three bolts and three "INSULATOR, DELIVERY"

Yeah, it has 3 bolts fixing the rail to the manifold. I can't say I've got anything in the parts bucket that I would term as insulators. I'll try using washers to space the rail off.

That looks about right. My injector plugs are a tight fit up against the flat on the rail

Missing the spacers.
I dropped one and couldn't find it, but a spring washer was the same thickness as the other spacer.
I eventually found the one I dropped, but 2 years later the washer is still there.
I will measure the spacer to be reinstalled and take a pic later today if I remember.
I also have 2 baleno injector rail spacers I can measure too.

Hope you haven't damaged the injectors and the seals etc.

Thanks Guys. JD, I'm a little concerned about damage too but I think it should be ok. Once I saw those collars starting to deform I stopped. I've actually got my own injector cleaner and tester. This came with a heap of seals, filter baskets, o'rings etc. Provided the injector itself didn't bottom out I can replace the rest. I'll try it with spring washers and see how that rubber collar looks. Why they'd bother using spacers in this situation is beyond me.

The parts manual calls them insulators, I have no clue what material they are made from, but if they are not metallic, the intent might be to reduce heat transfer to the rail.

They are plastic.
I didnt get a chance yesterday, but I'll have a look this afternoon
