I am looking to swap out the poor excuse for a horn on my new Jimny.

I am after something that would be a straight swap without having to add additional wiring.


Any help would be great!

Unless you want a train horn or something, just find something with the tone you want and swap it over. I'd recommend something from an 80's mercedes or similar.

There's generally 2 different tones, low and high pitched... I tested both on mine and settled on high pitch (sounds more like road runner) as it 'seemed' louder even though they were the same DB rating. Mine's just some generic aftermarket job. It's far louder than the standard sierra horn ever was, and with the way it's positioned right at the opening of the grille the sound is pretty well directed too.

1980's S class Mercedes had a switch for "city" and "country" horn tones. *useless trivia*

I've seen it in other cars too but can remember which.

Strangely enough pitch seems to have a great deal to do with how loud it ‘seems’. I have frequently seen other motorists not hear sirens which are notably louder DB wise, but manage to hear the horn sound beneath the siren. Hmmm
