After having carby issues on the weekend the idea was put into my head of adding efi to the mighty 1 litre. I have another carby I could bolt on and tune with minimal fuss, but adding a throttle body injection has a few benefits that interest me so it's worth looking into. So for the gurus out there, what do I need to look for in matching a tbi setup to the 1 litre and any suggestions of suitable donor vehicles. I'm guessing matching throat size and engine capacity are main factors. the carbys throat size is 32mm, I have heard of people fitting 38mm SU carbys to the 1 litre, not sure on manifold bore diameter without pulling the carby off. Fabricating a manifold adaptor is no trouble, neither is basic wiring and fuel line changes. Really just want to find a vehicle I can pull all the necessary bits off and retrofit them to my zook.
And for anyone that's thinking of saying get rid of the 1 litre and 'upgrade' to... Blah blah whatever. Nope. Not interested. The 1 litre does everything I need of it and does it well.

There's a number of multipoint efi setups run on Chinese F10as, it would be easy enough to source one off alibaba. Probably cheaper than a homebrew TBi/microsquirt type setup too.
The bore in the manifold is also 32mm. I've bored one to 35mm using a spade bit and a drill press (surprisingly good finish). I'm going to punch one out to 38mm sometime soon, I've got a HS4 SU to go on. The bigger issue with the SU is getting all the cables hooked up, also hooking it up to an airbox.
All the carby issues I've had on 1ls have been from people reassembling the enrichment valve wrong. One had no top spring, another had the spring on the wrong side of the top diaphragm making stay open all the time. Fuel economy was like 30l-40l/100 on the second carb!
I don't know of anything with the right size TBI but many EFI dirt bikes would no doubt be suitable.

I have a pair of SU's from an old Rover [or something like that] lurking in the shed, consorting with webbers and Lynx manifolds [for fiat twin cam and 1500 cortina] The SU's are attached on the inlet side to a lovely cast aluminium manifold that would hook up nicely to an airbox. You sure you cant run 2 x SU's? stephen

U can buy the 1ltr carbs cheap enough brand new. They are generally less problematic and run better on angles than a sierra carb id just get a brand spanker

Aaron was looking at twin SUs, he even had a manifold you might get him to let go of, he is now looking at quad.
some where around the interwebs is rhetts mazda 121 efi conversion which would work perfectly for you.

Rover V8? The problem is they point downwards. I don't suppose you could measure the OD that the pipe fits over? Janspeed might still sell the adapters, years ago they sold a kit to put a HIF38 on an F10a, complete with bored out inlet manifold and airbox adapter. tanshi wrote: Aaron was looking at twin SUs, he even had a manifold you might get him to let go of Aaron sold it a few months back.

Nah mate definately off a 4 pot, I "rescued" them from the wall of a shearing shed. Old codger told me they were from a Riley Pathfinder, but an S.U. specialist over t'otherside reckoned they came from a Rover 4 cylinder. Dimensions: The SU's are 38mm bore, Inlet casting is 60ish mm internal, 70ish mm O.D. The carbs are 186mm centre to centre. If you have a phone that can receive pics - P.M. me your number and I will send a few your way. stephen

There was a Mazda 121 at the claytons towing auction yesterday. I was going to go and see if I could pick up a bargain for a donor car. But I had already done my dash with Father's Day pressies and didn't want to push my luck bringing home another yard ornament.

Both chinese and indian sellers As for TBI could you use a small car MPI throttlebody and SPacer blate with angled fuel injector lug.... Or simpler yet drill and weld injector lugs to the 4 individual runners & go full MPI

I have a good spare carby I could bolt on.
Yes I could go full multi point by modifying the manifold, or getting an injected f10a head. But simplicity = reliability. So I am looking for a relatively simple setup that is cheap and easy to get my hands on and is as close to bolt on as I can get. Hence looking at a straight forward TBI setup.

Wouldn't the EFI f10a simply be a bolt on MPFI manifold? I can't see a reason to change the head.

I've seen (and spoken to a head reconditioner about) an f10a head with injector ports in it, I since assumed they were direct injection. But I may be wrong as all I can find now is port injection setups. Still not readily available in Aus though. MrRocky wrote: Cam sensor ??? I would have to graft something on from donor setup.

chinese efi f10a, looks like manifold mounted injectors. I am not sure if the coilpack/sensor housing on the back of the head would be compatible with our carb f10a here though.

I'd have to source it, import it, and then modify it anyway. May aswell go the cheaper option and retro fit something off a locally manufactured car.

thats a carry van/truck engine, thats why the carb looks like its pointed to the ground. look at the shift linkage coming out of the gearbox, this engine is supposed to be on its side
