Hi could anyone please post a photo of where the stock breathers are on the gearbox and the t case? also are they worth replacing with a barb tail fitting? If so what size barb bail fitting should I get & What size tap do I need to make the hole threaded (I need to buy one so do I buy Imperial or Metric?), also what size hose would I be looking for? Thanks alot, I figured if I am gonna change the gearbox out I might as well put the breathers in there now before I do the diffs as now would be easy access.

Breathers are already fitted as far as I am aware. They are teed together and the line run up to at least the top of the bell housing and can be easily extended.

Everything has breathers and hose on it already. Just extend the hoses. No need to drill and tap anything.

:O you sure? is this for all vitaras? I thought they just had some pressure caps on a spring, what size are the hoses if anyone knows? & will I need an imperial or metric tap & die set to do the diff breathers?

X2 for Gwagen's response.

Have a look under your car.

The rear diff breather is easily visible - look for a hose that goes into the top of the diff - it goes into a hard line directly above it and ends up behind one of the taillights with a breather cap

Ditto for the front diff breather - it should (most probably don't) end up hanging to the top radiator hose via a clip with a breather cap.

On mine the gearbox & transfer breathers are visible from the driver's side of the tunnel - they tee together near the clutch lever and extend maybe 6" after that with a common breather cap.

From memory the rear diff breather hose (needs to be extended after a lift) is 8mm. I used auto fluid hose. Maybe check the other hoses for size?

A metric tap and die set is IMO an invaluable addition to an automotive tool kit but isn't needed for this job.
