So I need to change the water pump in the GV, got all the way to undoing the bolts only to find that it won't come out because the timing chain is in the way.
It seems that the adjuster is out a fair way and because of that the chain is now in the way. It's all of about 3mm, but that's enough to stop the water pump sliding out.




Any ideas?
I'm thinking to simply unbolt the adjuster, to slacken off the chain so the water pump comes out, however I'm worried that I won't be able to get it back in as everything is under tension. Any advice here?

I'm trying to remember what I did, to get my waterpump off when it was apart. Pretty sure I took the guide off to slide the pump out. Bloody pain in the ass these motors, glad I've gone to the darkside.........

I had a look at the manual and it offers no clues it just says remove water pump.

But it looks like t tensioner can be adjusted this is from the NGV manual but it might work for,you. If the ts the same there should be a little latch on the bottom of the tensioner from what I can gather it needs to move to the right to release it but it's a little fuzzy. It says you can lock it open with a pin in that little hole after you move it back to the left.

I actually found that little latch on the underside of the tensioner....once I released it the chain slackened off and it was fine after that. It's still a little slack at the moment but I'm guessing that once the car is running oil will flow into and and tension tightly again.
