Just wondering if I can use the complete rear diff drum to drum from a 1995 5 door vitara 2.0 v6 h20a in to a 2001 grand vitara 2.0 i4 j20a?

Also 2001 gv has 16" steel wheels and 1996 vitara has 16" alloys. Are the offsets the same.

Regarding the axle question - the rear suspensions are different - the 95 model uses a three link with an upper "wishbone" to provide lateral location, the 01 uses a five link (four with a panhard rod for lateral location)

No, rim offset is different. GV rims have more offset (increase track width)

Cheers Gwagensteve. So the question now do I stick with the steel wheels off the GV and swap tyres on rims or do I go with the alloys and run wheel spacers?

That's easy. Wheel spacers have several disadvantages, least of all they're illegal.
