Hi Everyone,

I have the opportunity to get an injected 1.5ltr swift motor very cheap and in good condition.
Firstly has anyone done this conversion before and secondly will it bolt up to my current gearbox in the coily, and thirdly what else would I need to do to get this to work excluding electronics?

cheers

Pete

Jazzor fitted a M13a to his hightop then later an m15a to his LWB. Used a Jimny auto. A G series box wont bolt up to the M series so you would need a NON VVT manual gearbox as the VVT box would give wacky ratios in a sierra.

With the early M series box, I believe you need to use the 1.3 tailshaft housing and shifter or the shifter will be over the transfer lever. The 1.5 is by all accounts a torquey motor but it's a very involved conversion compared to a G16 swap.

You'll also need a Jimny sump and oil pickup, jimny block side engine mounts, extractors (or exhaust manifold) I don't know if the swift inlet manifold will work in a Sierra. Then you'll need to start work on the loom.

I recall reading something about a G15 years ago, but it was a pretty rare bird - I think only produced for one variant and maybe only one market? (could be a tax break thing where cars under 1.6l were taxed less than cars over 1.6(?) something about the Caribbean or something rings a bell.

Never seen or heard of one locally. In fact, I've heard of more G18's which categorically don't exist than G15's :D

Same reason ferrari produced a 208 back in the 80's - 2.0 litre turbo V8 version of the 308 - all about tax.

And tax is the reason why LJs/Sierras/Jimnys exist anyway.

As smooth and silky as M series motors are (assuming we are talking about an M15a here), unless you had a donor Jimny it's going to be a pretty nightmareish conversion for a Sierra.

Suzistore did an M15a coily a while back, there's some posts on here about it. One of MrRockys mates owns it.

Yeah that car is presently for sale
The m15 lacks the punch of the g16, its much smoother and linnear power delivery. Cool conversion and acheivable into a sierra using 100% factory parts but alot of work.
The g15 i drove was out of an import swift and was in a sierra, an odd beast revved like a 1.3 and power of a g16. Seemed the perfect combo to me
