I believe there was talk in another thread about it not going ahead or something? You might be best to contact uneek directly and get a real answer from them =)

I am fairly certain greenzook received one of the first production models as a replacement for his prototype one that had issues.
I am also fairly certain he got rid of it fairly promptly after receiving the production model.
I am also fairly certain it ended up in the hands of johnno_racing.

Thanks guys greenzook89 wrote: Maybe I got a dud.... ^ This is what I was wondering, I just hadn't heard anything for a while, and cap lockers came up after I accidently started a war on Facebook with some subie drivers... Not looking at buying, but would be interesting to hear some feed back. johnno_racing any chance of a report on how it's traveling next time you get a chance?

From seeing the prototype the idea looks good. The prototype was rough which was probably the cause of the failure. Production run quality 'should' hold up. With the main centre components being Suzuki it makes parts readily accessible

Back when Joe started this he stated these would be half the price of ARB's. I see Uneek have dropped their price down to $700 which is a reasonable saving but is it enough. This now matches a Chinasong so they have met the market price for an air locker

Yes i do have a Production Cap in the rear of my jimny its done about 11,000km now, no issues at all. the system holds air fine with the compressor rarely cycling. it has locked in once in my driveway but it was bound up whe i switched it off, guess it just took a bit to unlock i used it flat out on fraser and it got a bit of a hard time towing my camper. i may put it in the front of my ute for adventure tour next year and give it a good workout

It's really great to see an Aus made competitor to ARB! Hopefully the CAP system proves as reliable and they get their marketing right to attract a decent customer base to maintain production.

The biggest hurdle to the CAP locker isn't marketing or the product, it's too many product lines. I recall they were planning to offer something like 4 different part # for the rear of a GQ/GU patrol. That's a nightmare of inventory management, cost structures, and upset owners because they bought the wrong product.
Likewise, there is NO commercial case for making lockers for the front of a coil sierra. Sure, Joe could do it in his shed for fun. That's not realistic in the marketplace.

I would have thought the biggest hurdle would be convincing 80% of the 4wders out there that they can put something other then ARB products in their vehicles.

Not at all. Inexplicably, perhaps, lots of people seem to think ARB are the devil/overpriced/garbage whatever and would do anything to avoid running their gear.
That's OK - there's always room for competition. However, during conception, the idea was the CAP locker was at least 40% cheaper than ARB, available for a range of vehicles Air lockers weren't available for, and could retain the factory LSD if so equipped.
It doesn't quite seem like that's how it's working out.
We'll see I guess. It's very expensive and complex getting a completely new product to market. History is full of driveline products that never made an impact on the market.

I enquired about CAP lockers for the Gen1 Grand Vitara to see if they (like ARB) required some mods to fit.
They (Uneek) said the axle shaft needed to be cut down 5mm to work, and this was the only mod required.
To anyone that has fitted these - does this comment ring true?
If it utilises the same bits that come standard in a normal GV (as opposed to ARB that requires a different 3rd member from an earlier Vit) why would there need to be an axle shaft reduction?
Edited - use the right terminology you muppet!!! (me that is!)

I suspect there is some misunderstanding, and it's actually the axleshaft that needs cutting down. I can't comment on why this is required, but it's much more likely than needing to cut down the driveshaft (as in tailshaft)

With a CAP you should run a ring gear spacer. I'm assuming its to do with the unit replacing a bearing cap throws everything out of whack.

So who has one fitted to the rear of their GV? Im about to fit one.... but have a few issues.
swapping the Vit 5.125 ratio into the GV housing the pinion doesn't pull up onto the crush tube. Has about 5mm of play. A spacer on the flange side of the bearing will fix that. And the crown wheel sits back to faron the carrier and the retaining bolts on the side of the center hits the housing. Does the kit contain a crown wheel spacer?
