G'day guys, I bought a sierra with a G16B coil pack engine and it has powersteering in it, which is good however whilst idling and not moving (even whilst idling and moving) the powersteering drops the revs quite noticeably and I feel that under enough pressure, it would cause the engine to stall. Any way to fix this? hook up and idle up or something, or is this an issue with the powersteering itself? the steering box does seem to be leaking quite a bit of fluid.

Does it have a wire hooked up to the power steering?
If not then U have to run one back to the ECU.

Any more information on this guys? I'll need to wire in the power steering idle up on my sierra when it's back on the road.

Wire your headlight idle up to a button on the dash, your car must idle quite low to stall ive not seen a sierra with ps do that in normal conditions

It doesn't stall but drops revs noticeably and I feel if I was idling along in 1st low (with 6.5s) and turned into a rock or going down hill it could. Not a bad idea with the switch.
Kenzook was telling me on Facebook that there's a connector on the pump which is meant to run into the ECU c16 pin and it is green with a white strip. (baleno motor)

Mr rocky, I was gunna wire up the headlight and elec load idle ups to a switch as well for a few extra revs for winching/charging a flat battery/and maybe a higher idle cruise when on rocky creeks so I can take the foot off and just plod along with the 4.9's.
so my question is pjzooks diagram shows diodes in the high idle circuit what do they do and do I need them? Between the ecu and switch?

The diodes form a logic circuit known as an "OR" gate - they allow the signal from the side lights OR the blower fan OR the rear defroster OR <name accessory here> to activate the idle up solenoid, without affecting one another.

Using the diode OR gate to get the power steering to activate the idle up can be done but it is going to require a little more wiring - the switch on the power steering pump grounds the signal (logic low), you would need to wire it through a relay so that when the pump switch grounds the signal, the relay closes and sends 12V (logic high) to the ECU via the OR gate.

The diodes are only needed if you have more than one circuit that will activate the idle up, and if the ECU is from a vehicle that had power steering it should already have a sense input to the ECU that can be wired directly to the power steering pump.
