Hey guys and gals,

Quick question... rear bearings with spacer on the bearings or spacer separate?

Just taken wheel bearings out and it has two different bearings, one with and one without?!?!

From the outside in you've got the spacer, the wheel bearings then the collar that the axle seal runs on.

Don't forget to put the spacer back in!! It causes problems. Ask me how I know!!

They are three separate parts.

Separate or spaced inner race, They both space the wheel bearing the same, you don't have to use one or the other.

Good to know! I haven't come across a spaced inner race yet.. no doubt I will and get confused

WT have the spacer built into the inner race of the bearing. NT have a separate spacer.
If you buy the NT bearing kits that include a new spacer (which are cheaper than WT kits), you can run them on a WT with no issues. They are dimensionally the same.

Which way round do the spacer and retainer go on the axle?
Spacer has a flat side and an indented side. Same with retainer, a flat side and a narrowed side.

On the axle (so from outside/brake side inward),

1) spacer. I had the tapered side outward

2) wheel bearing

3) retainer/seal surface on the inside.

The last set I had a taper on one of the edges. I think off memory I put the taper on the diff side as that seemed to run the seal on the best part of the retainers surface

I have a press ..

And regarding the locking ring that the seal runs on one side is tapered and one side is rounded .the tapered side goes to the bearing...

pressing the bearings on is the easy part , removing the old bearing without damaging the axle is the harder part.

Hey Losfer, where abouts in Brisbane are you?

I got the bearings off, and it looks like someone previously has dinted the axles.
I've already put on one spacer and bearing and ive hammered the retainer, but the taper is on the outside...grrrr

if there is damage on the axle where the retainer presses on you can use either 3bond or a 2 part epoxy resin as a dodgy fix.
