Hi eveyone, my 16B engine is getting tired and needs some major work. Would I be better of revamping the old one or purchase a low mileage 2ltr EFI motor and doing the conversion.
I would like to increase the HP at the same time.

Can anyone recommend a reputable mechanic that I could go to ( drive in and out)

If you want a 2.0litre car sell your current car and buy a 2.0 litre car. There are a host of differences between the models and his will make a conversion quite complex and expensive, and you'll end up with something inferior to a car Suzuki already built.

Thank you for your reply. Would you have any idea of cost involved in a complete overhaul on the 16B engine.

More than the car is worth. Get a better condition g16B long motor from a wrecker and bolt it in.

Call Brian at Suzistore - he's done multiple engine swaps like this. They're not cheap, but they do good work. 9250 4650. Tell him I sent you and he'd look after you on price =) (alien with the UFO sierra)

To give you an idea of a complete overhaul you are looking about $2500 - $3000 for a full reco engine , then about $1500 installation costs +++ ie if you need a new radiator , or clutch , or hoses , or anything else that pops up on a 20+ year car .

Then again on a second hand engine prices can add up too. Say you get a engine for $1000 , mechanic charges $1500 to install , then to retain warranty from the wrecker you bought the engine from new timing belt kit , seals , water pump , radiator flushed or renewed, it can all add up to a $3500 job to install a second hand engine. once this is all done you get a month warranty (but piece of mind everything has been done and shouldnt need doing anytime soon). You can throw a $1000 engine in and do nothing but if it leaks oil , or coolant ,or overheats , noone will care.

Comes down to how much you love the car and how much you are willing to spend.
