Hey all,

Just recently Purchased a 2008 GV DDiS, and have been trying to find out as much about what can be done to these rigs, but I have yet to come across anything regarding performance exhausts.
Could someone fill me in, all the petrol models seems to have bolt on kits available, but could not find anything regarding the DDiS.

Cheers

The DDis exhaust contains DPF which will make replacement very expensive. Deleting the DPF would require a reprogramming the computer to ignore the missing system.

Downstream of the the DPF I'm sure an exhaust shop could make you anything you want, but performance gains would be minimal to nil.

There is no bolt on ready made kit for the ddis, the biggest issue is the dpf as Steve just mentioned. From the dpf back would be easy enough to get one made up custom. I thought about it as I have a diesel power module on mine but its all stainless from what I can see and still in great condition on my 2010.

I was thinking of doing an ECU remap later on down the road as ECU West seem to be the same price as a diesel chip and from what their website says seem to mess with the diagnostics less, But if I was to get a full custom exhaust deleting the DPF and ECU remap at the same time to suit it, would the gains then be worth the effort?

What's a re-map worth, around 1500 to 1800?

A custom exhaust about the same. I've been in the DDiS NGV and didn't think it struggled.

Only you would know if spending at least 3K to get to the speed limit faster is worth it. FWIW, I was quite impressed the difference a full exhaust made to my car, but its not a GV.

Problem with the remap is if you need to reverse it, its dear. At least with the chip/power module I can unplug it for servicing and I can turn it up and down. It has made quite a difference especially when towing, and a small gain in economy.

Back to the exhaust, I remember reading someone in europe did a dpf delete and put a larger exhaust system on and from memory they ended up with the turbo then running out of steam. He had to then get a bigger turbo. I'll see if I can find it.

What do you mean by the "turbo running out of steam"?

Boosting too much? Looking at the specs its a vacuum diaphram controlled VNT. Could you control it with a manual boost valve? Ala VW or ZD30?

I have been looking at the exhaust on the wife's NGV DDis car for a while, already has a hollowed out DPF(which makes a huge difference in power), but one of the biggest things I will change before we next go over to mainland is replacing the CAT which is positioned directly out of the turbo and does 180deg back on its self, with a straight pipe and putting a performance cat further down the line.
Then it will be to the workshop for a remap including egr delete. been quoted $1500 for a full remap to custom specs

Performance is good once on the move, but it bogs down bad off the line.

would be very interested in hearing about how it goes when you have all that work done, because that is pretty much what I had in mind for my GV

Bit of an update,
Went to ECUwest for a quote on getting 2.5" exhaust done with DPF delete, told me not to bother with the exhaust as the gains would only be around 2-4% as apposed to the 35-40% gain from the DPF delete and ECU remap, for anyone else curious about the same thing, will be getting the remap done in the next couple of weeks.

Bit of an Update,
Had the DPF removed and the ECU reflashed by ECU west for $1800,
Power before was 87.4KW and Torque was 307NM
After the reflash
Power is now 106.3KW and Torque 374NM.
havent had the exhaust done yet, but looking at doing a straight through 2.5" mandrell bend stainless steel system from the turbo back.
havent had the chance to look in to costs yet, as we driving the GV to broome in a couple of weeks, so all my money is tied into that trip, but when i get back have recovered from my crippling debt from the trip, I will start looking into it again.

So finally got round to doing my wifes exhaust on the NGV ddis, $200 for a custom pipe section to replace CAT which made quite noticeable difference and can almost say the car will launch off the line which would have been laughable to start with.
Then early this week had the technician upload his program for it to ECU which was $1500 and I am very impressed with the power/response difference and so is the mrs.. Havn't had a chance to take it for a long drive to check ecomony as this was the prime goal.
Interesting removal of the DPF didn't seem to effect emissions(smell mainly) But removal of the CAT has defiantly made noticable emissions in garage so will be putting a high flow CAT further down line, and clean the intake piping.
EGR system has of course been blanked and removed from software.
