hey all
is it just my set or are these things the most inacurate things out??
my lovely wife gave me a set of the 0 - 10 psi jobs for my birthday,
now I set them all at 5 psi but when I pump the tyres to say 15 psi they seem to stop anywhere between 7 and 4 psi and this is without moving a thing on them adjustment wise.
there is one of the four that will cut off at 5-6 psi and I'll cope with that but the other three are within 3-4psi of being the correct pressure each time. That would be ok if I was stopping at say 18 - 20 psi but Im in a zook on 34's so a couple of psi is heaps and I like to run it at between 3 and 6 psi tops

I tried the same one 4 times without touching a thing adjustment wise and this is what i got-
1st time 4 psi
2nd time 7.5 psi
3rd time 5 psi
4th time 7 psi
now these are brand new and suggestions

hey andrew, I wrote on your thread on outers..

I've only used mine once at the preset 18psi, but no issues to report.

I checked the pressure's after deflating with my 3 guages and averaged each reading. The deflators seemed to be accurate. When I got to the servo, All tyres were the same.

I've heard mixed reports about the stauns, i've just gone one of the ARB ezy deflators & it's cool & very quick

was going to get a set of stauns myself but have done the same as ATARI.Shouted myself a new recovery kit with the ezi deflator,very quick too

In saying that a mate has a set of stauns for his hilux,goes down to 15 i think and when we checked them on the arb guage and at the servo were spot on mate

yeah my old mans are a bit hit and miss don't bother with them now we just use a sick and a tyre gauge...

I use them. Always check afterwards and pretty good at hitting the 10psi mark. I agee a pain in the neck to set up though. Ended up using my wheelbarrow tyre. Heaps quicker to pump up and let down.

Disassemble them and reassemble with graphite powder.. Makes them much smoother in operation and more accurate.

i bought 6 of them and set 4 at 9psi and 2 at 5psi.
they work well and have given me no dramas at all.

ok guys a bit of an update.
seeing as its grandfinal day and footy blows and all my footy mad mates are watching that shit I looked at the stauns a little further.
Going by my trusty chineese verier the torlerance is VERY very close on the three that seem to play up the most and two had very slight bur marks where they are machined and end up togther in a bin before assembly.

my solution was to play with one only so if I fucked it I still had three that functioned in some respect.
I firstly gave the internal piston and bore on both pieces a wet rub with 1200 wet and dry paper removing about half of the machinig marks ,all burs and chamforing the piston edges.
them with the demel that my wife also gave me that Ive never used I polished the bore and piston with the little felt bit and metal polish.
cleaned all parts with brake clean, wd 40 and reassembled.
I reset the pressure to 5psi and ran it 5 times and fark me if they wernt all within a psi all 5 times mostly 5 or 5.5 every time.

I ended up only doing three of the four as one was seemed pretty good and I was losing interest by then but now they all seem good and are not getting the bin this week

i find with mine they sometimes stop around the 1-2 psi above my set pressure, i tend to give the pin on the top a quick flick to see wether it will let anymore air out. mine are all set on 15psi and i always get that setting unless my guage is out.....

just oull mine apart. didnt clean them or anything. but i reset them to about 15psi. will see what they do tonight

I reset mine about bout a year ago but noticed last time I used em there were out as one let the tire down realy low and needed more air before we went for a wheel

I have had a set of staun deflaters for years and they have never given me any problems.

I was going to ask if your tyre gauge may be giving you different readings, but you posted again and said that it can read a difference of .5 of a psi down as low as 5psi ???... what brand is it, I don't think I have seen one that reads in incriments of .5 a psi. My experience has been (even with good quality gauges) the lower the pressure the less accurate they are.

I had a kick ass tyre pressue gauge made by longacre. It's maximum pressure was 15 PSI in .25 psi increments.

Too bad some bastard at the race track wanted it more than me though :x

the guage was given to me by a ktm dealer who used to semi sponser me years back im unsure of the brand but its a digital that has a max pressure of 35 psi and measures in half psi.

it seems however that the tolerances may have been a little tight all seems good after a light sand and lube.

after a few test runs they seen to be stopping within a psi now
