Both mine are leaking oil now, one side worse that the other.
I've looked on Autopartsonline site, but none seem to include shims, which I assume I'd need.
Could one of you geeks give me a link to the best place to get all the parts I might need.
I might add that this is the only serria I've owned that has never had death wobble. I've left the QGR springs on, i.e. 4 leafs on both sides of the front, and six on the back.

It's extremely unlikely you'll need shims.
Bear in mind it's likely not the swivel seals that are leaking, it's more likely the inner axle seal thats letting diff oil into the knuckle which is then falling out.

I haven't gotten around to this yet. I'll just buy the seals soon. Tell me about the nut. I'm sure I read here somewhere that you do it up to 110 Lbs per foot, back off, them do it up to 90. The service manual says different ?.

Techncally you don't need to undo the wheel bearings. Pull the wheels off, Pull the locking hub cap off, Take the snap ring off the axle, Pull off the back felts/plates, Take out the top and bottom kingpins, The whole assembly will come off.

Sierra's, Ive always used a screwdriver and a hammer for the nuts. Dodgy but works. You will feel the hub when its too tight, It wont spin, and too loose, You will have play if you grab to top and bottom of the disc and push/pull. Too tight and they can overheat on the tar highway.

Screwdriver method works, I prefer to torque them up myself. And since I've got the rest of the assembly apart they are a good thing to do while your there IMO.

50mm socket off memory, they are low torque so you can normally get cheap pipe socket style ones which work fine.

Inner wheel bearing gets torqued to 10-15 N-m, do this while turning the hub by hand. Pop
On the lock tab washer and torque the outer wheel bearing nut to 60-90 N-m.

I honestly don't believe it's possible to get the bearings anywhere near right with a screwdriver. The first nut will always be done up too tight and the lock nut too loose.

I know doing them by feel is common for toyota owners but it's not correct for Sierras and results in increased service intervals (at best)

If you absolutely must to them with a screwdriver at least get a fish scale and make sure starting torque is to spec, and expect to do quite a bit of fiddling to get starting torque right. If you use a torque wrench you do them to spec and the starting torque is really there to confirm wear is within limits and everything was clean enough when you put it back together.

Like everything on a sierra, when reassembled to spec bearings are tighter than you'd do by feel.

Remember too we're typically running much heavier and wider wheels and tyres than stock, and much heavier as a % increase than large car tyres. this makes getting bearing tension right much more important.

Since having suzistore do my bearings rather than a normal mechanic shop, by bearings have lasted around 2 years on average. Previous to that i could chew out both front bearings in 6 months to a year.

The difference? Suzistore do it to the suzuki guidelines and not by feel.

I think you will find its more to do with the parts used, most mech shops will use the absolute cheapest parts possible as opposed to a quality brand known to do a good job.
Ive run more offset than most would want on suzuki axles (-55 with 50mm spacers) for 100xxx's of kms and had no dramas using quality bearings and grease with the screwdriver method. Its the regreasing and check/tighten every service as necessary that preserves the life of them, once u keep driving on them with alot of play in them they die in a short time.

Where do you source the parts or kits?

I usually use the Bearings and knuckle outer seals from the kits but I buy the genuine axle seals as the kit ones are crap.

Wondering if it's better off buying all the stuff separately

Mine was genuine maruti, took 2 weeks from india but used koyo bearings and qualits seals ect..(was also half price of the lesser quality ones) i normally run a thin smear of loctite on the outer to hold the seal in when using the chromos as they have a tendency to pop out when reinstalling the axles.
