I have a 1997 Sierra with a 1989 G13a motor in it. Every time I try to order parts they want the vin number. Can anyone help me with a vin number for a car with a G13a motor.

Has this had a motor swap or is it perhaps a G13BA motor? I don't think a '97 would ordinarily have a G13A motor.
Either way VIN number is on the compliance plate (I imagine same for Eastern states as here in WA). Lift the bonnet and it's attached to the fire wall above/behind the battery

I bought it with a reconditioned G13a motor in it. Every time I try to order parts for the engine the Suzuki dealer can't help me without a vin number. The vin number on the car is for the g13ba motor but I need a vin for a 1984 to 1989 which had the g13a in it so I can order parts.

Yes but there are a number of differences between a g13a and g13ba used in the sj80's. Using the vin on the sj80's compliance plate will result in purchase of the wrong parts.

So they used both G13A's and G13BA's in the sj80? Seems strange.
And why would the compliance plate VIN lead you to the wrong parts? Unless of course there's been an engine swap
Edit: oh wait!! Think I read the original post wrong. So it has had an engine swap so it's running a G13A which isn't the original motor? Understand now (I think)
I can PM you a VIN for a car with a G13A engine originally if that helps you?

Parts monkeys are hopeless without a vin . Tell me what you need and ill give you the part number. Then you just ring and quote the pat number.
