Engine won't care, but if the engine came from a year where a cat was fitted there should be one in place.

Depending on terrain you drive they can spark fires, i know a few farmers first thing they do is rip the cat off any 4by kept on the property
Personally ive had them block up when driving offroad, to the point where ive had to hammer a screwdriver infront of the cat with a rock to get over 20kms per hr

I deleted mine last year when it started getting cloggy. I was down on power and it made a huge difference.

I think the transport department call it a $30,000 fine for removing a cat from your car. I'm not 100% certain on the fine, but I know they increased it not long ago. This only matters to us with roadworthy rigs of course.

I think you will find that no one has ever copped more than a couple hundred dollar fine for doing so if any at all for a private use car. I believe the maximum penalties exist for large commercial and industrial type businesses and to scare the rest of us

A cat with a big hole through the center works well.. wont block up but still aids in burning off toxic exhaust gases..When the GTi engine goes in 92 next week it will be getting a cat...

As i mentioned in a previous post depending on the conditions you drive in they can start fires. I think you would struggle to find a farm in wa where cars ran cats

I prefer no cat, though a cat with a big hole blown in the center also sounds good.
That would stop the little fucker from pissing in my air con vents.....

Personally, I run them on my cars that legally require them. Having said that I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble for not having one or seen proof that there is some massive fine or removing one, though all the internet certainly says there is. I wouldn't have any qualms about bashing one out on a Sierra if it caused me grief.

I've never heard of a farmer removing one (I work on farms), though many farmers are removing the DPFs on their current model VDJ79s for the same reason.

Any sierra sent up north for farm work (cattle cars) farmers normally spec it with bunky cage and no cat.
Always wondered why northcliffe has massive fires every year, guess we know the culprit now... haha
