I just bought a 2002 grand vitara v6 and im looking to buy a suspension kit. So far im looking towards either the ironman lift kit or dobinsons lift kit, and i just wanted to get opinons on which suspension is better.

Ill be using the car mainly as a daily driver with every 2nd month doing some off road camping. Any advice will help greatly

I ran dobinsons in mine, in various spring rates. Was very good, I did have a strut fail but considering the amount of kms and bashing in the dunes it did it was very good.

Price wise top dog were the best price kit I got.

I've had OME in mine from new - still the original OME springs, but now 2 sets of struts / shocks in 245,000km.
Can't compare it to other brands, as that is all I have had in it, but I'm happy with it & suggest it will do what you want it to.
IMO, the rear is very soft from factory & if your car still has the original stuff in it, it's probably well past it's effective life, so replacement aftermarket lift stuff is going to feel stiff / harsh in comparison.

Have you worked out what kit to buy? If so, what kit did you end up with? Dobinsons would be better if you are more on-road then off due to the comfort unless you like a stiff ride then Ironman would be the go.

Has anyone used or have any advice on FTS (Taiwan) or Pro Comp/Black Raptor (Jimnybits UK) kits?

I am running Ironman on my SQ625 (1998) - I wanted Lovells (like I had in a 94 LWB Vitara - they were awesome!) but there was no stock when I was looking.

I am actually quite impressed with the Ironman. After hearing some negatives about the stiffness I was a little worried, but I have to say I am very impressed with how supple and 'soft' the suspension is. On road, it tends to float around a bit, like a big Statesman, but offroad, when you need some nice soft suspension (to stop you bouncing around), it is awesome, articulates well and is definately not kidney busting!

For the money, and the availability, I would probably go Ironman again if I needed to put suspension on another SQ625.

I decided to go with Dobbinson springs and Ultima shocks. I hadn't heard too much about Ultima but am pretty happy so far. Plus they came with a 3yr/100k warranty and were quite cheap so I couldn't resist. $570 total for springs and shocks. Will be taking them out for a proper test this weekend
