Does anyone know how a factory vitara tank is constructed/sealed ? It looks like they are in two halves and joined together . I would like to use one in a project but it's 10 to 15mm to wide . I am trying to work out if I can trim the flange down a bit on each side but concerned I will compromise the seal . It would be a lot of work but I could weld seal the cut down edge , but also suspect I would have to weld seal it all the way around .

Anyone trimmed one before ?

Cheers
Chris

Yes, you are correct, and yes, it is possible to grind the seam down.

Another option is to fold the seam over where needed.

I did both to fit a LWB tank in my car. It did subsequently weep where that area was heavily damaged by contact with a shock, but that was my stupid fault regarding shock placement and not due to a problem with the tank in that area.
