Hey guys
I have a 99 jimmy with 135000kms.
Recently the car has been getting hot up steep hills, over 3/4 on the dial. It cools down quickly as you crest the hill and proceeds to come back to sit below half way, where it usually sits.
I have replaced the fan clutch which was doing very little. I've also done thermostat, water temp sensor, crank angle sensor and all the fluids. Yet it still gets hot
I have also flushed the radiator multiple times with a hose as the car has been driven in mud. There doesn't seem to be any blockages, but obviously I cannot see the internals.
It is not losing coolant which leads me to believe the head is fine.

So the only other thing I can think is the radiator and or water pump.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Need to get this sorted before the hot Adelaide summer.
Cheers
Nick

Just thought I would raise it - isn't it the outside of the radiator that needs to be flushed when you've been driving in mud? Proper cooling requires proper flow, of coolant on the inside, and also air on the outside.

I just swapped out my 2000 Jimnys original radiator due to damage, it was still cooling well. As long as it's only had clean coolant run through it the core will outlast the tanks.

On eBay you can get fully welded aluminium radiators with a thicker core than standard for quite cheap, under $200 IIRC. If you search on the Jimny australia facebook page you can find a few posts from people who have needed to mod the shroud to make them fit. Otherwise a standard core plastic tank replacement is cheap and should certainly cool adequately.

See if the cap is holding pressure, give a radiator hose a firm squeeze and see if anything comes out the overflow. My cap disintegrated (original nippon denso) and combined with a lazy fan hub gave some troubles.

Ive seen many of the fully welded "hd" ones split.
Far less of the plastic tank ones seem to suffer the same fate

Have you removed the radiator to wash the mud out? It’s generally not possible to properly clean the mud out of the fins without getting the radiator out of the car.
