94 Vitara, 1.6ltr strangest gearbox whine.

Hi All
I have searched the forum and can't quiet find a situation or post similar to my issue. I have a 94 Vitara, that's developed a whine. It whines in neutral, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, not 4th and whines again in 5th. If I depress the clutch the whine dissapeers. Any thoughts? Is it the trust bearing. Any help would be appreciated.

Not strange at all. Time for box rebuild (or find a newer box)- simple explanation- the bearings supporting the gearset are worn. It won’t do it in 4th because that’s direct.
It’s not the thrust bearing.

Bearings done for.

Either do the rebuild / replace box thing, or fill it with heavy oil and flog it quick ... :twisted:

Get a tube of G70 into the box it will help
