The plates are solid, although one thing I have been wondering is how much heat they trap by blocking/reducing circulation - car has run a bit hotter since installing - although I think I might have a cooling system issue - was in some soft sand the other week and the coolant temp got up to 116 degrees before I noped out of that adventure.
Ironman to a good job for off the shelf but i've been a 6mm aluminium convert after laser cutting my own - far better at absorbing impacts if you're sliding down tracks on it (levuka etc) and better maliability vs weight.
Once the winch plate goes in i'll make some outriggers to support the plate coming right up to under the front bumper at a gentler front angle - take it back to behind the engine
