Hi I'm new to the forum so first of all hello everyone out there !
I'm in Lismore, NSW, Australia

I have a Suzuki Grand Vutara 2.5L V6 2002 manual Petrol Version.
Long story short a leaky windshield has caused my ECU to fill with water and fail.

I've read all the other ECU stories and can't quite find a solution to the expensive problem of repair or replace.
My ECU is a 33921-67D4 but under that it say 167D4
2.5 E24 Mt IMM 02MY (Australian 2002 manufactured?)

So my question is rather than pay loads of money for a new one is there a second hand one that will do the job. For example would any old 33921 or 33920 work with my manual?

If not does anyone have a clue how to solve this situation. I live in the hills and desperately need to fix my GV to get to work !!

Start ringing wreckers. I would have thought an ECU should be ~$5-600, but the price of ANYTHING at a wreckers will vary widely depending on how much you need it. It's not an unusual model and there should be a few around.

However, ECU's are pretty robust and repairable - it's likely blown a power transistor or two and is quite possibly reasonably easy to repair for an ECU specialist.

Sadly here is the issue.. it’s easier to get stuff done for less cost if you have time on your side!!

But in trying to locate one quickly I’d place an ad in gumtree to see if someone is wrecking a GV same (or similar) to yours, or has a ECU for one. You just might get lucky!!

In the mean time , as Steve says, phone around all the wreckers (local, but also interstate if you are able to wait for one to be posted or expressed to you).

The Bumstein in me would also look at what’s being salvaged at Pickles in your state. If there’s something going up for auction and you can pick it up for a reasonable price, you’ll have spares coming out the wazoo!! Stockpile bits you might need, but that’s just me and not everyone can do that.

Sorry I can’t help on which ECU’s will or won’t work or having them repairs but a call to a tech could be worthwhile..

Great advice
I'm going to look into getting a repair as so far I can't find an exact match on my ecu numbers.
I've already got a series 1 for parts but understand that not all are compatible however I might trt swapping the ecu, barrel key over from that and see if that works, only thing is its an auto and mine is a manual !

they repair, modify and fiddle with ECU's - the job they did on our zd30di patrol was awesome!

if they can fix dodgy patrol electrickery - jeez - Suzuki stuff should be a walk in the park.

Dunno if they can help but when I was looking for someone to do a tune on my Land Rover ECPT were the only mob (including land rover tuning specialists) who actually sounded like they knew what they were talking about, they were remarkably honest and helpful. I ended up sorting it myself but if I was looking at such a thing again they would probably be my first call.

FWIW pull the ECU apart and hit it with a can of contact cleaner and a soft bristled brush. I've saved a few corroded messes doing this, nothing as complicated as an ECU but it's worth a shot! Look for burnt components, you might get lucky.

Grand Vitaras ECUs suck, there are 3 series 98-01, 2002, 2003-2005, and AT is inbuilt into the ECU in all so to get a working ECU you need the exact number match. I have played around with several from different models just to see what works and doesn't and none I have tried work without faults on cluster lights and sensor faults. Yours is one of the rarer ones being only on manual v6 models manufactored in 2002.
