I recently got my jimny and i love it,
Just woudering if anyone has any suggestions on what i can do to modify it abit, i only really do beach driving and to and from work, is it worth getting a lift? Any other suggestions that would be worth doing to a jimny to make it better? Or any other mods to get it a little more power without pumping money into the engine.? Its a 2006 model with 85000kms on it and a manuel. Ive put some steel rims and bigger tyres on,hids and a better stereo at the moment.

I reckon you put a good set of tyres on but avoid the temptation to go too large. IMO a good set of AT’s usually work for most occasions unless you have specific needs.

Install an air compressor and drive it heaps!!!

Take your time working out what mods you want to do. Spend time to work out what will work for your use. See what other jimny owners have done and how well it does or doesn’t work.

I reckon it takes time to understand the cars characteristics and nuances. It’s abilities and it’s shortcomings.

Every modification is a compromise. Work out what you want the car to do better. Work out what you are willing for the car to do worse so it does some other thing better.

Ok sounds good, ive got a good air compressor, may look at getting some roof racks and an awning so far im happy with it though,

The bigger tyres are taking away the little bit of power you had, so the easiest way to get a bit of power back, is to put back on the stock rims & tyres - if you still have them. Run them daily, then swap to the bigger ones for off road, but if you are driving sand, you'll want as much power as you can get - you might try a 'flash tune' for the ecu , but I'm not personally a fan of going down this route.
An M15 engine swap (from a Swift - literally hundreds out there in wrecking yards) is about the only decent power up-grade.
People have done this swap on their driveway in a weekend.
If the car feels ok to you to drive, then no. you don't need suspension lift. If you limit mods & keep it light, the only reason to change suspension is when age or kms mean your stock stuff is less effective than it should be.
Like other people have said, have fun & try to not get too carried away with mods.

The only mods you really need for the moment are:
Recovery gear/bag
Good tire pressure gauge or quick deflector
Valve removal tool and spare valves
A heavy right foot


Long term I would be looking at possibly a M15a engine considering your terrain and suspension. I will not say you need a lift, but what a lift can help with in your situation is it can provide more compression travel to absorb rutted/crossing sand tracks, and it will obviously provide more Chassis clearance (so increased approach, departure and break over angles). Where I find you hit a lot on the stock jim is the radius arm mounts so a lift will help there also. What I will say is really take your time to research before getting suspension. It will save you doing things 2-3 times. If you can, try and get a ride in another jimny that might have the set-up your looking at.
