Bought my first Suzuki, an sj70 sierra
Oct 92 model making it exactly the same age as me
It cost me $500 and I probably overpaid for it in its current condition, it's still registered but prob shouldn't be iv only registered it for insurance proposes on the farm
But it's more weather proof than our can am buggy and that's so it has to do

apparently it's got a Weber carb which with some research appears to be most likely a 32/36dgv?(mechanical choke no shutdown soliniod)
It mostly runs quite well now if replaced the cap rotor, leads and plugs but its got a bit of a stutter if you plant it
I'm a Deisel mechanic by trade but never touched petrols other than Honda industrials

Has anyone got a diagram or map of the vacume system so I can tidy up the myriad of un used vacume soliniodsand emmisions control bits?
Why is there a vacume diapham on the intake before the air filter,it appears it opens up a second intake of some sort possibly?
Iv seen it writen in several places the weber no good on angles? How go good is it?
The main job of the car is going to be off road though some hilly terrain but nothing extreme
I can drive my Landcruiser sidewaysarojnd most of the hills without much worry

You can remove all the vacuum gear aside from the vacuum advance. It's there to control the EGR. I'd block off the various ports from the manifold near the base of the carby, vacuum leaks cause a lot of problems in these cars.

The flap before the air filter should go to a hose that sucks air off the exhaust manifold for (very) cold weather operation. You can remove it, it wont bother anything.

My Sierra had the same weber. Side angles are pretty good with the weber but it's going up or down hills that's the problem. You can fit the weber 2 ways, float bowl towards the front (how the kits do it) or float bowl back. With it forwards when you go uphill fuel pours over the float bowl vent down the throats and the motor wants to splutter and stall unless you have a lot of throttle and revs. Float bowl back you get a similar problem going down hill but it matters a lot less going down hill.

Going float bowl forwards I had the problem that taking off already pointing uphill the car had no power. I could bring it up to the redline and slip the clutch at full throttle in 1st low and still run out of power on things the car should drive easily. The main jets are up the front of the float bowl but the slow circuit takes its fuel from the middle of the float bowl so it gets fuel but the jets are starved of fuel so it idles and revs fine but once it comes under load it's got nothing. I tried lifting the float height to correct this but that just made the earlier problem of fuel spilling out of the float vent worse and the motor would stall when you braked because the fuel would slosh over.

I persisted and tried a lot of different things with the weber but I was happy to see it gone. I think the real solution would be to epoxy up the float bowl vent and run a vent up into the hat. Then you could run float bowl forwards without the flooding up hills problem. Still it might not be a problem for farm use, this is more from an offroaders perspective. I don't remember it causing me too many problems on the farm going places I actually had to go.

Righto cheers
Maybe I'll just take it for a proper drive and find the limits of the current setup
The intake doesnt connect to the exhaust anymore more neither is there any egr
Must have been all 1/2 pulled off any ready
I'll go block it all off properly
