I bought a 98 Sierra coily from a lady who had used the 4wd once when she first got it brand new but has never engaged it since. Being the peanut I am I thought at the time that this would mean that it would work perfect and didn’t think to check. I’ve since heard that not using it can cause the transfer case to seize and now I’m scared to test it out. What should I do?

The transfer case will be fine, but the hubs could be hard to lock/unlock.

Not a big job to take them off and give them some fresh grease to get them moving freely if they are a bit sticky.

I Second that, TF Case will be fine.

But you might find that some lazy bits and pieces have degraded. Axle seals and perhaps front output seal on the transfer case.
