Need some help for fuel tank choice, I know the coily tank is generally the go-to tank for g16b swaps but the filler hole would be facing the wrong way for a ute id imagine. any help appreciated

You can use a Pierberg pump. 7.21287.53.0 is the part number. You won’t need a coily tank, so you can keep the tank that’s in there

Clean the tank really well first.
The pierberg pump has a pre filter that will block up if theres 30 years of crap in your tank

maybe a dumb question, but whats the advantage of the pierburg pump over the bosch 044 (vl turbo)?

Pierberg is self priming so it’s in its correct application pulling fuel up out of a tank, unlike the VL pump which needs head pressure.

Neither performs as well as a swimmer pump in an EFI tank because there’s no swirl pot in the fuel tank so starvation becomes an issue on side angles.

I'm running a clacker and swirl pot so the 044 gets gravity fed, and it seems to work well apart from a dodgy pump once. When did people start making the switch to the peirburg? i wish id known about it when i built mine

It’s mostly a MrRocky thing. As much as I dislike external pumps, full credit to him- f you’re going to run one, run the right one.
