Im looking for a 10mm drain key socket for the gearbox/diff ect drain and fill bolts but i cant find one anywhere,
I found the part number for the socket suzuki uses in there manual but havent seen if suzuki can get one in or how much it would be. Does anyone no where to purchase one?

Which is an excellent way to trash the drain plug and have to weld a nut on.

3/8 drive ratchets are both smaller (3/8" being 9.6mm) and the corners are bevelled at the end to make it easy to get sockets on and off. the result is when you put them into a sharp, 10mm drain plug they want to back out and turn, wrecking the plug.

If you want to use a 3/8 drive, use a 1/2"X3/8" adapter and grind the end flush to remove the bevel, make sure there is no debris in the plug, and push HARD on the tool as you're trying to undo it.

The generic dog-bone shaped square drive tools I've seen are garbage. Cheap cast construction and the drives are tapered which is worse than terrible.

you can also use 10mm key steel which is very strong, dimensionally accurate and has sharp corners.

I got a set of about 20 different 3/8" drive sump plug sockets including a 10mm square off ebay for $30ish. Handy set to have. I ground off the chamfered end of the 10mm square to get a bit more purchase on the bullshit shallow suzuki bungs.

The 10mm square is worth having. I had to use mine with a rattle gun and I totally changed the shape of the bung but it still gripped. I was never going to get it out with a breaker bar, maybe with heat.

Before I had the proper set I had a piece of sheet metal bent into an L to take up the extra clearance with a 3/8 drive extension bar with the chamfer ground off. It was a PITA but it got me out of a bind.

The 3/8s drive I used was quite square but I must have got lucky as all the ones I've done so far where not very seized.

Here's a typical WT diff fill plug. It's previously had a nut welded to it because someone attempted to undo it with a 3/8



Here's a Kinchrome 3/8" extension fully seated in the plug and rotated 45˚



at which point it just backs out, makes a mess of everything and a nut gets welded on.

A last resort, is to use a sharp cold chisel & punch a nick in the outside of the plug & then turn it round.
Careful to not also nick into, or bend the diff pan - only works on these 'external' flanged diff drain plugs.
If it is a gearbox or transfer box plug, welding on a nut is the go.
Either way means you need to find a replacement plug.

I bought a set of sump plug socketsin a kit from Super Cheap Autos. I can't remember exactly but around $35 I think.

I ended up finding one online from a tool shop cost me $20 for the socket, didnt realise how hard it would be to get one

Yes,that's the Ebay link,it didn't show in my searches over the years but i put in the sellers description from the website(above) and it was the first cab off the rank.
Now i'll just have to wait to see if it works,depends on machining and the quality(hardness) of the steel used.

Te tool socket, its looks well built and the socket is nice and small to fit into tighter spots.
