Hi. A bit of advice needed. On a 1981 Sierra, what is the style of swivel joint called on the front axle. I don't think it is a cv joint. The external surface of the swivel joint is slightly pitted from rust. I have wire brushed it back to clean. My understanding is that from new this sphere was painted and some of the paint was still present. I am hoping to repaint it with KBR chassis paint which is rock hard and flows to incredibly smooth. Since the seal is to keep the grease in and dirt out can anyone see anything wrong with this approach. Regards Alan

The style is borrowed from a WW2 MB/GPW Jeep and is called a "Rzeppa Joint", although for simplicity it is just called a CV Joint nowadays. The same system is used on all Suzuki 4wds from LJ10 up to SN413 Jimny, although some details and dimensions have changed through the years.
Your repair approach sounds good, make sure all the old rust is gone before you coat over the swivel housing.

I’ve just done a similar thing to one of mine. Coated with Bill Hirsch miracle paint then I used compound and buffing pad to get the surface nice and smooth, there’s still some small low spots but nowhere near what it was. I reckon it will work just fine
I’ll post some pics when I can
