Can the early Vitara rear end complete with axles and diff be transfered into the later model Vitara. 1995 model?

You sort of haven't really given us enough information. As you're in NZ, I'm aware there are lots of imports and this can confuse things a bit.

If the two vitaras are both 1.6, yes, although manuals and 4 speed autos are 5.12 ratio, 3 speed autos are 4.625, and I'm not sure what ratios the TBI Escudo's ran.

If the 1995 car is V6 or diesel, the answer is no, the diesel and V6 cars had a wider track width so the housing/axles etc are different.

thanks for the reply. The situation is that i have a short wheel base 8 valve carby model that I rolled. It is stuffed. I am now building up a long WB 1600 injected model.

The rear diff from the 8 valve has disc brake conversion and air locker installed. It would be good to just do a swap out of the whole rear end diff housing the whole lot.

I guess the best way to find out would be to take them out and do a comparison.

They will swap over. both cars are 1.6 they're the same track width and if the 8v carby car was manual it will be 5.12 geared. The EFI 1.6 cars were all 5.12 geared.

Swap away.
