I replaced a rocker cover gasket a little while ago on my suzi and noticed that there are 6 or 8 or something phillips head screws which i think are tappet adjustments???? A few of these were loose like finger tight, could that be the reason my car sounds like a diesel...???

Those screws hold the rocker shaft in position and also keep the oil in the rocker shaft which lubricate the rocker arms , if they are loose or missing you will get poor oil flow to the rocker arms and if missing flow like a fountain , this would not cause any internal noise , it will be poor valve stem , rocker arm clearance , best adjusted when the engine is slightly warm , Cheers Paul.
