Evening all,
I have recently acquired a 2012 Grand Vitara 4X4 (MY13) with the standard 17" alloy rims and I'm investigating other wheel/tyre options.
With the standard 225/65 boots fitted, there isn't much sidewall to allow for airing down, so was wondering if there were a "less rim/more tyre" combination? i.e using 16" or even 15" steel rims.
Grateful for any guidance.

I doubt that 15" rims will clear the front brakes, so 16 is probably as low as you can go - my 2005 JB came with 225/65R17s on alloy rims and a 225/70R16 spare on a steel rim, check the door placard and see what it says.

Following this thread. I put something similar up in the n00b section, though yet to get a reply.
Just bought my 09 jt which has the 225 65 17s. First thing I wanted to do was some 16 sunraiser style rims.
I have got the quote from bob Jane for rims, and 235 70 16s. However, i used an online tire size calculator, and the 245 70 16s arent all that much bigger than the current 17s. I just worry about scrubbing out, although i do intend on a lift at some stage also.

Anyone use the 245 70s at all?

245/70R17 is the 'sweet spot' size for a NGV.
Decent brand / pattern choice, doesn't bust plastics off, doesn't sap too much power.
An alternative is steel 16" rims with 245/75R16 - same same overall size, but since you already own the 17"s, why bother.
Only real advantage is even wider brand / pattern choice, but becoming less so.

Just be wary of going too aggressive with lugs. The NGV would have to be close to, if not the worst car for transferred tyre noise.
If it's a daily drive, or you do lots of tarmac km getting to the fun bits, an M/T will probably drive you nuts with noise.
Because the NGV is fully independent, a suspension lift of 35-40mm will genuinely increase ground clearance, which is a big weakness offroad at standard height.
Don't go chasing 45+mm of lift, just no.
Replace the front plastic tray with something - pretty much anything other than cardboard is an improvement.
Choose your terrain wisely & you can have a lot of fun with these. 2012 should have traction control, which is actually reasonably effective.
