Electrical aside... surely this combo out of a 2015+ would work in a sierra???

Anyone ever measure it up?

99.99% sure the new vitara is transverse.
The 1.6 SWB NGV is North/South M16 with either an AW/4 or some sort of manual you might be able to lop the transfer off the back of.

I'll have to look further into it. I'm sick of g16's.

Brian did a m15 into sierra with a hybrid box
All bolt in bits, power was fairly different to a g16 more of a linear curve with the peak later in rpm rather than the early torque delivery of a g series.
I drove it, was better than a carb but not as enjoyable as the g16. I dont think a m series motor would suit your driving style

Maybe try a built 1.6 motor with aftermarket management but keep in mind most driveline stuff breaks once power goes past 1.6 levels

lol my driving style is generally accelerating as fast as I can to ~70km/hr...

I'm just torn with going another g16 if it turns out my smoke blowing issues are piston related. Aside from even trying to find one, they all seem to be fucked now.

I'd happily chuck something non-suzuki in if it meant I can have something newer, similar power and retain the manual box (or have one with similar ratios). The internet seems low on ideas for anything newer than early 2000's though!

Yeah some motors just arnt worth rebuilding, im sure your aware rebuilt g16bs tend to have a much shorter lifespan than uncracked ones.
Most gearboxes are too long for swb zooks.
F20 honda motor is good but $$$ and old, unless you go auto all nissans rwd offerings are out.
Maybe look at the uk 4cyl ford motors, alot of guys use them in motorsport and offer decent rwd gbox and gear ratio options

Although a lot of rebuilt G16's dont go so well i think its more to do with once they get hot they go soft. If it's just piston ring (evenly reasonably even worn compression or oil ring related) i see no issues with a basic rebuild. If it's had a head gasket let go or its been overheated i would bin it.

Cheers Vet180 - It looks like I'll drive it short-term as-is with a very slight knock, and get it rebuilt.

m16 is definitely on the cards, and can be worked on in the background =)

Id say look into a Jimny motor M13A with an upgraded long block (M16 or M18) running Jimny ECU and Jim gearbox with the rear housing changed.

I'm REALLLLLLY reluctant to be swapping heads & blocks around after the G series experiences though.... Mines a G16 bottom with jimny BB head as it is... Leaning towards the cheaper M15, but the high compression one from an Ignis as a possible solution.

Out of interest why not the M18? Its really the pick of the M series.

I would also consider J24 if going a newer engine conversion. Drove a jimny with one and it was a rather good expirence.

Engineering. Mine's fully engineered as it sits, so swapping to a 1.5/1.6 won't require any further work, just an engine number inspection and away I go. If you go to a 1.8 (which is the max you can go from a 1.3 vehicle) they will likely ask for brake testing to be done.

no need to swap heads or blocks. just need a rwd sump and non vvti bits from m13a. but yes an m16 sbens to be a good option. if you can get the engines cheap enough it would be worth looking into

I have no idea if this is feasible, or been tried, but what about Mazda MX5?
RWD / 2WD layout, about the right capacity (1.6, 1.8 & 2.0litre - depending on the series), all alloy so similar weight to G & M Suzuki motors.
Might be a little peaky in the power delivery?
Probably not cheap & some might have been given a caning - gearbox / gearshift might be on the long side?.

haha swapping brands, then you'd go ford ecoboost, aftermarket ECU and and adapter bellhousing to something... Be big big $$$ though

I like the idea of a m16a and looking into this too, any idea if the stock gearbox would match up to the m16a? Or what gearbox would be used, trying to keep the original transfer box? Or would a Jimmy or Vitara gearbox be a better option?

Have a chat with Brian at Suzistore - He was trying to find a way to adapt the M engine to a sierra bellhousing - Otherwise you need to source a rare as hen's teeth BB jimny manual box.
