Who here has used dynamat or something similar? Looking at using it in the GV but not sure if I need to pull up the factory stuff first or I can just go over it.

I’ve used Dynamat, at the moment I’ve done it in the doors of the cruiser but plan to do under carpet and then on to all my cars.

I think there’s be a fair chance it would work fine over the current soundproofing, as long as you can get it to lay without too many air pockets. You’d probably need to lay it slowly and a heat gun would help, depending on how rough the current soundproof is.

And for the record I love it. Makes a huge difference on the highway, overall driving pleasure is much better.

It’s basically just adding weight to the panel, so long as it goes down smooth it won’t matter.

Despite the fact every hot rod shop plasters Dynamat over every inch of every interior surface, that’s not how it’s intended to be used. It just adds mass which lowers the resonant frequency of the panel to a point below the other noise on the car or to a point it’s inaudible to the human ear. The key is adding enough mass to get the job done. It’s not very good at absorbing noise, that’s not it’s job.

I used a mixture of Dynamat and Dynaliner in the Coily, It worked well but I didnt do the firewall so there was always that bit of engine noise filtering through

Yeah I wanna do my GV as well, how much of it did you use? and what was the cost?

7 sheets (one package at the time) of dynamat and 2 sheets of dynaliner on footwells and tunnel.

I could leave a Mars bar on the passenger floor during summer on a 12 hour trip and it not melt haha.

After spending far more days than I want to remember removing 6 squares of the stuff off my car so I can paint all the rust repairs ect. I will never be using it again. It’s very much a once it’s on it’s not coming off type of thing.

I have some inside the front guards where the factory front speakers go... I put 6" speakers in those holes and it rattled like mad!!! Steve's spot on - I only needed to use a square about 200x200mm inside each cavity to completely kill the vibrations. If you're trying to kill a specific rattle in the car you're going to have to figure out exactly what's vibrating before working out how to stop it.

Hardware stores have some stuff that is used to insulate HVAC ducts. Cheap and effective.
