Hi, Anyone done an M16A head (2015 Swift Sport 11:1) on M18A (Liana 9.5:1) block?
M18A is 9.5:1 so I was wondering what compression I would get if the M16A (swift sport 11:1) head was plonked on the M18A block? Chamber sizes are difficult to find!
Ports on the M16A appear to be the same as M18A - In 27x46 and Ex 34mm, valves on the M16A = 27/46mm but I can't find M18 sizing. Anyone??
Camshafts - probably have to retain the M18 cams as the M16 (2015) appears to have a different position flag disk on the end. Can anyone confirm this??
And it seems the M16A head lacks the EGR valve ports so that may be an issue. Have to find out how the M16 handles the EGR function.

Can't help with that info but interested in what you are you trying to achieve with the head swap?

Well Brenno, I got my M18 swap done, but after just 100km, I have to pull the M18 head off again. Was going very well but developed a high idle and rough running. So I started from scratch with a compression check. It has low compression on #4 :(
Very pissed off about it I can tell you. I suspect the head is "soft" from a previous overheating event. I did have it checked for hardness before spending the big bucks but there is little else it can be. Both head and block have been surfaced and new gaskets, head bolts, blah blah.
M18's and parts are hard to get. M16's hopefully somewhat easier and cheaper. BUT, with 1.8L pushing into the 1.6L head (which was running at 11:1 in the sport), I might be too high in compression for unleaded.
Can't find combustion chamber volume for either head at the moment.

Low comp could be a few things ither than head being soft.

You would really need to know the head cc to really know.

However the m16a to my knowledge actually has the same stroke as the m18a and it's actually the bore that is different. Therefore theoretically you could lower compression by carefully shaping the chamber. Not sure what squish etc there is but to run 11:1 I imagine it is good. In therory you should get better head flow with the bigger bore of the m18.

If comp levels are acceptable you could gain a bit in power. The main issue would be valve to piston interference.

If you could run m16a cams and ecu it could be a powerful little engine

Guys, is there a link to any advice on building a M16A suzuki swift sport head onto a Liana 1.8 block. Also if I swop out the M16A motor block for the M18A block but use the M16A head on the M18A block do I need to change Ecu or do any additional wiring etc? The car I'd like to put the M18A block into is a 2010 Suzuki swift sport 2door.
How complicated is it other than swopping and combining the motors?
What else do I need to change?
Sorry for replying on a 2021 post but any help will be greatly appreciated
