Toying with the idea of welding my rear diff. Just wondering how people have found this for on road driving eg cornering, turning at intersections, U turns ect and has it affected your tyre wear much?

I had one in my sierra for years

on road I learnt to live with it and thought it was ok

BUT
I would kill a set of MTR's in 30'000km compared to 60000km at least on an open diff

it works out that it is cheaper over the life of one set of tires (60000km) to get a set of tires and an airlocker

of course on a weekend basher the km and tire life dont come into it

if you do heaps of hard tracks where you need locked diffs, get a spare diff center and weld that and put it in. Keep your good open diff as a spare then.

If you don't do much hard stuff don't weld it. Same goes with the front, you can weld that if you do A LOT of hard tracks, and it's ok, but a welded diff is not meant for flat ground

I agree with Royce - you do have to plan your trip to the garage though.
I only pulled mine out so that the Drover was almost legal for my son to drive.
I have a welded NT diff (rear) with correctly set backlash if you are interested.
