Any reviews or thoughts on the TRE Elocker ? .....might be a simpler setup vs the air locker route. I haven't seen anything on this elocker yet.

It’s hard to imagine much simpler or higher quality than the “new” series air locker. They’re very elegant, having pulled mine apart recently for modification, they’re miles ahead of the old style (which is what the Chinese copies are based on, as the patent had lapsed for the old design)

I believe someone has played with a TRE locker and it wasn’t very good.

I did see the destructive testing by ARB of the Chinese clone. Just wondered if anything changed...probably not.

I think the RD 208 is the refined version (RD 88 being the first version)?

Yes, the three digit codes are the new style locker.

They're completely different. ARB had to change the design enough to warrant a new patent. It's much more elegant, fewer parts etc. I know some people dislike the new style as it doesn't engage on the side gear as deeply, but I think that's a theoretical rather than practical problem. Even the air fittings have been substantially reworked for the new design and they're a breeze to work with.

The problem with the copies is there's no real information about them, typically only hearsay. Someone pulled one apart and said it looked OK, someone else pulls one apart and says it's made like garbage, I've heard they use sintered side gears rather than forged/machined gears. Everyone says the compressor, solenoids and wiring is garbage.

The e locker is a whole different thing though.

None of them are cheap enough compared to a genuine Airlocker to bother with. The advantage I can see is that they can/do make up custom stuff, which is what Neofitou on here has done, saving the expense of having an airlocker modified locally, which gets expensive.

What type of driving will it be used for?

I just fitted an LSD. Cost me $1400 fitted. I used it last week and did 3000ks from St George to Cameron's corner, big red and a full day of mud before going back to Charleville.

It was the best mod I've done

In my opinion an LSD is a tool to tune handling on road and fast dirt, primarily by reducing understeer and improving acceleration when both tyres have similar levels of traction. They solve a different problem to a locker, which is what Lebowski was asking about.

I'm sure for your extended touring use an LSD is effective.

LSD's generally work poorly when there is no load on one wheel, with the exception of the Zexel Torsen, which responds very well to power braking. The obvious downside there is it's therefore useless in a manual where left foot braking at low speed doesn't work. Without power braking it is only an average LSD, taking us back to my comment above.

No argument Steve, but the op doesn't say what type of driving the locker is intended for. Anyway, this is a video of the same locker I have. Also I was able to go up 'Big Red' in 2wd.
