Hi all,

I'm soon to be in the market for a reconditioned 1.3 for the Sierra. After doing lots of umming and ahhhing, I have decided that the 1.3 is still the best option for me. As an added bonus, i'll be spending the money I would've spent on an upgrade to put towards better transfer gearing.

So with that in mind, what is the best p[lace to buy a complete reconditioned 1.3? Suziparts seem to be the cheapest but i'm looking for quality work more than anything. Does anyone have any experience with them or recommend another mob?

(I don't want to pay through the roof but quality is more important to me than cost.)

Also, I don't mind having to travel to pick it up.

hey smokey, have you considered rebuilding one yourself?

they are an easy engine to pull apart and put together, i would be doing that and just getting and engineers shop to do the stuff you cant (honing and skimmin the head)

just buy a haines manual.. thhey are fairly in thread..

i worked out that i could rebuild the 1.3 with oversize pistons and all machining for about the 600 mark. (that was a while ago would have to check prices again)

but i do it for a living (mechanic and auto elec all bundled into one)

Try Brian and the boys in WA at http://www.suzistore.com.au/ . I don't know if they are cheaper than Suziparts but I've had nothing but excelt parts and advice from them. As for re-building the engine I agree it is easy and the haynes manual is very good. Another place to download the proper workshop manual is: http://www.suzukiinfo.com/ Anyway as long as you have some mechanical aptitude, both manuals and the advice available around the web and shops you can re-build yourself saving you heaps

I wouldn't mind doing a self rebuild actually. I have the Haynes manual and from reading through it, the 1.3 looks like a piss easy engine to work on. As I have never done a rebuild before (but have mechanical aptitude), I have a few more questions to ask:

1. What do people usually do with a 1.3 rebuild? Do you usually go all out and get rod, pistons, valves etc? Or keep the original ones (given there's nothing wrong with them) and go for larger rings?

2. How does the 1.3 hold up to an oversized bore? Sizes?

3. Should I order parts before of after the engine has been stripped down and machined?

What i'm after in an engine that is very fresh and will last another 200,000km of abuse. The car is solely used for off roading with very minimal on road use.

Also, I don't know if this makes a difference to any of the above, but the engine is a G13BA. After reading up a little, it seems that they have a shorter stroke to make them more rev happy.

4. Which internal parts of the G13BA are different to that of the G13A? (will help when ordering new parts)
