Good morning all.
After coming home from a week ar Fraser Island I noticed a new sound from the engine bay. Concidering the sand and salt it sounded too me like a idler or accessory bearing had failed or got sand stuck in a pulley somewhere.

I sprayed them all with no change. The sound has now intensified and using the old screwdriver stethescope the sound is the loudest right on the front of the cam cover.

Any suggestions as to what's wrong? The sound increases with revs.

I would suggest you remove the serpentine belt and run the engine without it - 30~60 seconds should be enough for you to determine if the noise is present - if it is, it'll be something in the timing chain area, if it stops it's external to the engine which, in my opinion is more likely.

The engine is noisy but I removed the top idler and its definitely causing some of the noise. I'll swap out and do the auto tensioner at the same time
