Greetings

I just picked up an SJ80 fitted with an older TJM winch.

Cannot find the socket for the remote anywhere on the vehicle. Looked all around the winch itself, under the bonnet, in the cab but nothing to be found.

It looks like it hasn't had any TLC for a long time and the first thing I want to do is strip the wire cable off and replace with synthetic. But before I do that, I need to be able to reverse the winch to release all of the cable which is currently jammed hard in.

Any ideas where I might find the socket?

Couldn't get the img tag to work so putting the URL in instead.

Do you have the remote and can't work out where to plug it in?

Small update.

Eventually I found the outlet right underneath the solenoid box (I wish my hands were smaller) and discovered a lead plugged in that disappears into diy-wiring-hell and then by the look of it through a grommet into the cabin. Gave up for the day and went to light the bbq and have a beer - tomorrow is a good day

There will be a three position switch somewhere for winching and out. If the switch is missing it’s easy to work out- it will be a three core wire, one is powered and two aren’t, depending on which one you hook the power to will be winch in or winch out.

Assuming the solenoids work.

Personally, if the control wiring/switch doesn’t fire the winch up, I’d move to checking that the winch motor is actually functioning before I spent any more time or money on ancient solenoids etc. the winch motor requires +ve and -ve and then the fields need to be powered to fire it up in or out. (“F1” or “F2” terminals on the motor)

If the winch runs but the solenoids are dead, get yourself an Albright solenoid, get rid of the TJM stuff entirely.

Thanks for your input - much appreciated.
