So I am putting a 1.6 in my 92 seirra this week and every one I have talked to said I have to swop the oil sump off my 1.3
I have been looking at it and with the amount of lift I have and the SPOA 2" spring 2"shackle. Do I really need to??? Its not a big deal to do but it looks like the 1.6 can hold more oil. If that is the case and with the clearance I have I would rather have more oil.
Any info would be good.

I have 40mm springs and ext shackles and have plenty of room. Going to shift my diff forward an inch and then I'll be able to ditch the shackles and still have no dramas. Your current setup should be more than adequate.

Steknig, thanks but that dosn't help. if you look at the pictures that seirra is standard with no lift. the SPOA alone is 3.5". I have about 50cm or more between my diff and the lowest point of the 1.3 oil sump. I want to know if the 1.6 or the 1.3 oil sumps hold more oil. I really dont think I will have any clearance problems...

Here's something no-ones considered yet.

Find out where the oil pickup for the 1.6 is. A Sierra's pickup is short and picks up from the rear to suit acceleration and climbs. If the Vitara pickup is in the front, like the longer swift pickups, then I would definitely go Sierra. I don't imagine oil volume is drastically much different.

If the diff will well and truly clear even with the diff hard up against the bump stops then run with the vit one, I think a lot of changing sump talk centers around using a swift engine

Vit pick up is also at the rear but just deeper.

v.w.dave, you shouldn't have any troubles running the Vit sump if you have that much lift.

Ok cool thank to you all I didnt know it but I have a ex-Suzuki tech working for me here. The vitara sump holds about 700ml more oil and the pick up is deeper so I am going ot run the Vit sump.

Now this Nissvit carby??? what is that? what is good/bad about it? That is the first I have heard about it.

Should of helped, he had said heaps of room at sdt height with diff foward 20mm, meaning you have heap`s of room.....

Thanks, Yes ok.. I was more looking for the oil valume thing more so then the clearance. after doing a test fit the other day I knew I had wayyyyy more then enough diff room.

I will have to talk to Nissvit.... Prices prices prices.....

So, what about the case of the oil level getting a bit low? How many times have you been wheeling with someone and they have checked their oil to find there is none on the dipstick? In that case, they'd want a pickup pretty close to the rear and bottom of the sump.

I generally 'wheel' with people who check their oil before hand and maintain their stuff so they arent smoky leaky heaps of shit so I cant say the issue of discovering you are out of oil halfway through a day has never arisen

As I do... My motor went through a set of rings last weekend now i am putting in the new short motor. I like to be reliable.
If you look at the videos I posted up from last weekend at 6 stage you will see my smoke trail.

If you read back you will see what I started this topic for. I was asking 2 questions.

#1 with my kind lift has anyone had a clearance problem with the vitara sum?
#2 does anyone know it one or the other holds more oil?

I just would like there to be as much oil as possible. I dont let my oil run low or anything and I dont plan on doing wheel stands.
