I have done the 1.6 transplant into my sierra and I have already shaved the starter to fit. the trans is on with the plate and i have the starter on but I have misplaced the 2 top trans bolts. my addaptor plate is 5mm thick and the original plate is about 1 mm.
The question I have it with me loosing the 2 bolts and the trans already on without having to take it off again does anyone know the thread/size bolt I need to replace them with.
((damn 1st yr apprentice cleaning up tosses out everything))

Yes want33 I am a mechanic. But I am a lazy one and that is the reason I became a service manager.
I dont want to pull the box back off to figure it out. I wanted to stop by the shop on the way to work on monday and just get them. Not go to work pull the box back off take a thread reading then figure out the length then leave work again to go back to the shop I passed on the way to work to get the 2 bolts I needed to finish a job.
I pulled the box on thursday after noon and I found that my apprentice accedently cleaned up about 6 of my bolts friday morning. but I didnt realise this till sat morning when I was putting the box back in.
SO I put the simple question up to save me the time.

Now Want33s would that make me a Bad mechanic or a smart one trying to save time????? Ohh and to add to the chime in's ScrawnC I have been a VW mechanic for wayyyy to long. I never once said I know anything about Zooks. I have often said I dont know them that well and that I was new to the zook world.

Makes perfect sense now.

A good mechanic would remember the size of the bolts removed.
What is wrong with finding a few bolts that are around the shop and trying them to work out what the thread/length is?
Glad I don't own a VW.

Want33s I did just that I have buckets of old bolts that I tried but nun were the right size the only ones I had that were long enough were old head bolts but they were too thin.

I often thank people and if you knew me you would know I give way more then I ever get. I am a very thankfull person but when a simple question is made as a mockery (thanks wants33 and ScrawnC) I see no reason to thank you.

HAHAHAH and your glad you dont have a VW dude get a life hahaha you probably couldnt afford one seeing as your still wanting 33s hahah big jokes haha dork...

Oh and thank you royce for giving a simple answer to a simple question.
and ajsr I would normaly use my vernieer and use the depth guage but as I said I already have the box on the motor and didnt want to have to pull it off to get the size

1.3 block top bolts are m10 x 1.25, 1.6 top bolts are m12 x 1.25.

So you already know the depth of the hole by using a smaller diameter bolt.

My apologies for misreading the initial question. I thought you wanted starter bolt sizes...Where in "M8 X 1.25" is there any mockery?

Thanks want33s, That is all I was asking for. Yes I did know about how long they needed to be. But see if it wasn't obvious I was at home the zook was at my work. As I explained I wanted to pick up the new bolts on the way to work to save the time of having to run back and forth. That is why I was asking to save me the trouble. I knew M8 was way to small and after reading it I knew that was for the starter.
Thank you for your help in the end.
