hey guys i noticed a few weekends ago when i was out at glasshouse when i was on a steep hill raping it or getting air born and front wheels picking up while raping it, it would start to die or starve for fuel. wat causes this and can it be over come ?


would a decent electric fuel pump over come this ? and do i need to take it easier ?

hmmm i see so an electric fuel pump wouldnt do anyting ?

the only experience i personally have with electric fuel pumps on zooks is on my mates. It was on there when he bought it. He constantly had fueling issues so replaced it with a standard mechanical pump and he never had another problem.

If the stock pump is working correctly i wouldnt change it.

Mine used to drown itself in the same way you describe, really bad when bouncing the front up ledges. I was told its actually the carby flooding the engine and i dont see how a different pump would change this.

I never tried to fix it though, just went straight to 1.6MPFI.

My Father gets airborn on a regular basis (3rd gear low on 31's fast enough?), and has no problem with the carby starving. He only gets problems on really steep hills (as I did as well).

Sorry couldn't resist, dad airborne on the weekend... hehehe

Basically a carby uses gravity to work. Fuel is supplied to the float bowl through the neddle and seat valve. When the car is level or fairly level this works fine, the bowl is kept at the correct level by the action of the float on the neddle and seat balve. But once we throw in some angles, the design of the float bowl and the float itself become less effective. Then end result is either the neddle adn seat valve staying open causing the fuel level to get too high and spills over into the carby through the float bowl vent (usually when climbing), or the carby can starve for fuel as the fuel moves away from the jets (not really an issue with zook carbys).

Had the same issue today. Going up a step hill with a small step, bounce, snuff, right at the critical time when you need to punch over the step. Just another zuk charateristic to deal with.
