On the bonnet and roof of my black coily the paint is starting to fade badly.
could it be heat related, worn out heat shield in the bonnet, parking in the sun?

is it the original paint?
factory japanese two pac paints (1990 - 2000) were not rally up to scratch with a lot of manufactures.
It used to fade really badly and in some case (toyota) the metalics, the clear would delaminate from the metallic base, in which case no choice but to sand it off.
if its only faded a light cut may bring it up a little but if not and the paints sound only choice is to sand it down and repaint.

i would say it is the original paint, but it was perfect when i first got the car in 07.
it does need a re-spray, just trying to figure out why / how it got like it is.

yep its farked
what you are looking at is the clear coat seperating of the base coat.
you can just rub off the clearcoat and repaint the vehicle but I dont recomend that, better would be to remove all the paint and repaint preferably in two pac if you able if not acrylic.
the reason for this is early on jap manufactures did not have decent UV packages able to deal with aussie conditions in their paints.

lets put it this way. i was doing 50kph when she stepped into the side of the car.
smashed the mirror and put some marks down the side of the car plus the rear wheels went over her. before i could
ring the coppers she got up and staggered away, she was well and truly gone by the time they got there.

That happened to a mate of mine a few years ago. Staggered out in front of a car in Haberfield, got collected, slid stomach down the gravel for twenty metres or so, the poor motorist got out all shaking and said shit are you alright. My mate gets up and tells him he's a stuntman for a living and staggers off again. Next morning, my mate could'nt figure out what he had done to be covered from head to toe in scratches, bruises an blood.
Back on topic, thats going to need a respray. As already mentioned it is caused by clear coat coming away from the paint. Sometimes it's caused by dodgey paint, but if it's genuine, I reckon it's because car manufacturers only paint the bare minimum coats onto a shell to make it look good. You only need to look under the doors or sill of any new car to realise there is no paint there. By painting cars like this, it save the manufacturers millions of dollars a year.

I have stripes of paint on the roof of my vit where there was rola roof bars for years

Could this damage happen due to lack of polish or is it cuased by UV and crap paint?

its caused by UV degradation of th clear coat.
then water gets under and causes that milky effect.

Yeah its UV damage, possibly was resprayed cheaply in the past and they didnt use a quality product.
